During my teaching degree, I worked for a private after-school tutoring agency. While there I taught German, English, Math and basic French grammar to students aged 7-18. I also worked one year at a school teaching English as a third language to immigrant children one afternoon per week. Overall, I have about 1200 hours of tutoring experience. I also began working with children at the age of 14, where I volunteered at my local Protestant church. I conducted a weekly group meeting for children between the ages of 6 and 11 years old.
Most recently, I have worked as a teacher at a Berlin comprehensive school for over 2 years before moving back to London for my PhD at King's College London.
I love the 'break-through' moments when I can see in my students' eyes that they understand, and later potentially love, the subject they once hated!
I, however, miss tutoring/teaching and hope to be able to help students, via Open Mind Tutors, with their individual needs.
Having lived abroad and being a trained foreign language teacher, I know exactly what pupils studying a second language encounter. I, also, believe a shared experience can be a great motivator, as well as the opportunity to speak German with a native.
